Silent Valley National Park

The Silent Valley National Park is situated in Kerala in the Palakkad district in South India.

The Silent Valley National Park is sited within the dense woods as backdrop, twisting streams intersecting the terrain of the mountains and high peaks of the Blue Mountains.

This national park has a great deposit of wildlife including animals, birds, reptiles, insects and exotic plants. The Silent Valley National Park is enveloped in the Western Ghats in the Kundali hills.

This Park is 40 kms from Mannarkkad in Kerala. This Park is well bordered by Palghat woods in the west, Attappadi Reserve forests towards the east and Nilambur in the south.

The Silent Valley National Park covers an area of 77 Sq. Kms and the ideal time to visit the Silent Valley National Park is during the months of September to March. This park was considered as a reserved site and in 1914 it was acknowledged as a reserved forest by the Chennai Government.

The park has remarkable and curious plants as well as herbs of exceptional medicinal value. This valley has more than 110 species of fauna with best medicinal value. Here seven new plants species were discovered. This park possesses bizarre peninsular mammals. Moreover, nearly 120 species of birds and various kinds of
Mammals are found in this park.

The Nilgiri tahrs are an endangered species. Though the existence of this species is a threat, it is found in Silent Valley National Park.

The lion-tailed macaques, the wild elephants, the Nilgiri laughing thrush, the ferocious tigers and the Indian hornbills are the other occupants of this park.

This wildlife park is popular for abundant types of butterflies and nearly four hundred species of moths including the Ceylon Frog Moth.

Besides various animals and birds, venomous as well as non-venomous species of serpents, amphibians and lizards are easily found here.

The flora and fauna of these astounding reserves compel the visitors to stay and enjoy the beauty of nature. The elegant peaks as well as the meandering rivers enhance the tantalizing romance of nature. The hues and tints of the flora and fauna, the rare herbs, animals, butterflies and moths are exceptionally found here.

The railway station nearer to this Silent Valley National Park is Palakkad and the airport adjacent is Coimbatore which is at a distance of nearly 55 kms. Visiting the Silent Valley National Park is an opportunity to explore and delve into the abundance of nature and its beauty that is irresistible.
