Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is snuggled in the dense woodlands of Kerala. It is situated on the Vembanad Lake and covers an extensive area of 14 acres of rain forests.
Kumarakom benefits from the tropical climate almost for the whole year. So the climate is always cool and the breeze is very fresh making the best of the warmer months also bearable. They have monsoons from June to Mid August.
The best and ideal months for visiting Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary are between the months of November to March. During the ideal months tourists flock this sanctuary to have a glimpse of varied species of animal life.

The Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary has an exotic fauna and flora and this has led to assorted species of migratory birds flying down here to take shelter in the fertile overgrowths of these regions. Birds migrate from Siberia and various other countries cold countries take refuge in this sanctuary during winter. November to march being the ideal season for migration gives a glimpse of vivid colored birds and so ornithologists from various parts of the world visit this town to capture the view of these rare species.
The rare species includes the stork, the elusive heron, the common egret and the teal. Even while canoeing or boat you can watch the ducks and waterfowls, parrots, flycatchers and larks. Varied birds present in the precincts of the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary include the owl, the cuckoo, the darters, the Siberian cranes and the kingfishers. |
