Kerala Wildlife

India is well known for its natural resources and it lives up to its reputation as it has several sanctuaries and other spots for wildlife conservation.

All the Indian states have lots of diverse wildlife, yet it is Kerala that continues to attract tourists all around the year all over the world.

The state of Kerala is a national as well as a global hot spot for animal lovers as there is no dearth of wildlife in this phenomenal state.

The state has thick tropical rainforests that serve as a natural habitat for several animals and hence there is a wide diversity in the variety of wildlife in this state.

The growth potential of this state as a haven for animal and nature lovers has been rightfully tapped. As a result, there are several wildlife sanctuaries in Kerala such as the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, the Silent Valley National Park, the Periyar National Park and the Eravikulam National Park.

There are also other sanctuaries like the Peechi Wildlife Sanctuary, the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, the Parabikulam Wildlife Sanctuary, The Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary and the Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary. The presence of numerous wildlife sanctuaries is primarily helped by the fact that the sanctuaries are supported by both the central and the state government.

The Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary situated at Idukki district hosts fierce animals of the Indian forests and is enthusiastic to preserve rare species such as the Star Tortoise and Giant Squirrel.

The Eravikulam National Park preserves the Nilgiri Ibex, and other creatures habituating are Leopards, Malabar Civets, Barking Deer, Languor, Nilgais and numerous other rare species.

The Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is also dedicated in conserving the birds that migrate from various cold countries. They give an opportunity to the tourists to view a paradise of birds and as there are numerous birds it is truly rewarding to watch this infinite bird watching.

Kerala wildlife is abundantly and apparently obvious at the Periyar River. The sprawling Periyar National Park preserves the royal beasts from malicious poachers and preserves the majestic animals. Visitors from various parts of the globe come to watch this wildlife safari. The Silent Valley National Park true to its name houses hundreds of butterflies and moths.

The other endangered species such as lion tailed macaques and Languor are conserved here. The Kerala wildlife is full of life owing to the dense plant growth, favorable climatic conditions and natural water bodies. Traveling to this part of Kerala and watching such rare species is surely rewarding and worth revisiting.
