Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary kerala

Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary is situated at Kerala. This sanctuary is located in the Idukki district in Devikulam and occupies an extensive area covering 90422 square kilometers. The Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the prominent wildlife sanctuaries in the entire South India.

This Wildlife Sanctuary is enveloped with wet grasslands, thorny scrub forests, dry deciduous forests and shoals. This enveloped area offers a natural habitat for endangered and rare species of animals such as the Giant Grizzled Squirrel.

The Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary lies in the Sahayadri’s rain shadow region and visiting this sanctuary gives you an opportunity to watch wild animals such as monkeys, elephants, deer, peacocks and spotted deer that wander without any hindrance on either sides of the road.

The Chinnar Wildlife Park was honored the merit of wildlife sanctuary in 1984. This wildlife sanctuary is situated adjacent to the Anamalai Wildlife Sanctuary of Tamil Nadu and the Eravikulam National Park in Kerala. Being the celebrated wildlife parks of India, the Chinnar wildlife reserve is of great significance.

This area undergoes extreme dry conditions owing to scanty rainfall. They experience merely forty eight days of rain especially during the months of October and November. The animals and plants surviving in the Chinnar Wildlife Park have perfectly adapted to callous conditions.

Chinnar wildlife sanctuary has a distinct combination of exceptional species such as Neelakurinji and the grizzled squirrel. On the way to this sanctuary, spotting elephants or tigers is a possibility.

Passionate bird watchers can give exercise to their eyes by watching graceful peacocks walking elegantly and conscientious wood peckers toiling on plants such as Velvelam, Chandanam, Mazhukanjiram and Bhadraksham in the luxuriant reserves of the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary.
