Ponmudi Hill Station

Ponmudi is situated at a distance of 61 km from Thiruvanathpuram. This is one of the magnificent hill stations and is a fantastic place to enjoy the bounty of nature.

Ponmudi has an extensive area of spice and tea plantations, fertile hills and mist covered valleys.

However, the spice shops are filled with varieties of spices. The name Ponmudi means Golden Crown and is befitting as it beautifies the God’s country. This is expressed so because it is a gem studded in a kings temple. It is situated at a height of 3200 feet above sea level. Ponmudi bestows with experience of enveloped hills, plains and clouds that rejuvenates your cells.

Ponmudi is dotted with a surfeit of sight seeing places, though it does not have significant tourist landmarks. The colorful butterflies and the tweeting birds can be seen at the Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary.

It is believed that Pygmy Elephants are spotted here. These are one of the rare elephant species found only in Africa. Ponmudi makes an ideal place for trekkers.

Ponmudi has a Deer Park and was referred previously as the Upper Sanatorium, while the narrow deflections leading to Ponmudi were referred to as the Lower Sanatorium. The lower sanatorium is an ideal place for tourist activity as it embraces various tourist lodges, guest resort and KTDC beer as well as food shops.

The Deer Park, the mini Zoo and the Ponmudi Crest serve as beautiful picnic spots. Varca Beach is also one of the wonderful places for relaxation. Trekking gives you a wonderful experience and taking a dip at the reservoirs invigorates your senses. The Meenmutti Waterfalls is awesome and visitors rush to the Neyyar Dam as it has an explicit garden with sculptures.

The Neyyar wildlife Sanctuary gives its visitors an opportunity to watch crocodiles’ sun bathing, boat riding and indulging in meditation. As Ponmudi is well connected by rail, air and roadways, visitors enjoy revisiting such pristine place.
