Alappuzha Beach

Alappuzha is one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Kerala and is called as Venice of the east. With a vast network of canals, lakes, sandy beaches, panoramic lush greenery, endless coconut and palm groves and peaceful atmosphere, Alappuzha attracts thousands of tourists every year.

Alappuzha which is also popularly known as Alleppy is famous for its house boats, boat races and has become prominent for backwater cruises.

Alleppy’s major tourists’ attractions include Alleppy backwaters, Alleppy beach, Kuttanad, Karumadikkuttan, Champakulam, Alleppy Pier, old light house, Krishnapuram Palace, Amabalapuza temple and Aruthukal. Alappuzha’s beach is one of the longest in Kerala

With thick palm groves and endless clean blue waters, Alappuzha beach makes an ideal place for holidaying and relaxing. There are number of holiday resorts located in this beach providing endless memories. It gives immense pleasure to watch the sun setting in the horizon providing an array of colors over the sea water.

Vijaya Beach Park is a theme park located on the sea shore and also provides various sports activities. Champakulam is a beautiful and calm village surrounded by waters all the sides. This picturesque village consists of a very old market and a church for St. Many Forance built in 428 AD. There are beautiful mural paintings decorated over the wall of this old church.

Champakulam is known for its annual boat racing with its Nadubhagum and Snake boats. The old light house is situated in a short distance from the beach.

There is also an ancient pier located in the sea shore built by Captain Hugh Crawford nearly 140 years ago. During the British period, Alappuzha served as a major trade center for exporting spices and various materials to European countries.

The Alappuzha backwaters glisten in such a way that even a slight tinge of green or blue gets reflected in the water. This sea offers a pleasant evening and a boat ride on the backwaters in the evening during the sunset hours is just romantic and memorable.

There are numerous historic remnants of the colonial era that jog your memory to the bygone days. This beach endows with appropriate ambience and enough amusement features such as toy train for kids at the Vijaya Beach Park, a swimming pool and boating facilities.

The Kochi International Airport is the nearest and the Alappuzha station is the nearest Railway station. Buses are well connected to almost all the major tourist junctions and ply frequently. There are boat services to Kottayam, Cochin and Changanasserry making access easy.
