Poly Technics in kerala

Polytechnic is a term with two words, poly and technic. As poly means many and technic means art, polytechnics are the place where numerous courses related to various technical fields of life are taught. Main reason behind establishment of polytechnics was to train persons to attain some skills.

There are forty eight polytechnics in Kerala; six of them are private colleges. There are seven polytechnics which are especially established for women. Around ten thousand students are enrolled annually in these colleges.

These polytechnics offer three-year diploma courses for students in 23 disciplines. The main focus is given on engineering streams as civil, electrical, mechanical and automobile engineering are offered here.

Wood and paper technology, textile technology and printing technology are also offered in these colleges to make students skilled. To meet the demand of time various courses related to computers are also offered. There are few courses related to other fields of life as well such as diploma in commercial practice. Following is the list of few renowned polytechnic colleges of Kerala:

  1. Carmel Polytechnic College, Allappuzha

Various diploma courses related to engineering are offered in this college. There are 60 seats each for civil, mechanical and electrical engineering courses. The quality of education and training programs is excellent here as students of this college are placed in various renowned government and private sector organizations.

  1. S.S.M Polytechnic, Tirur

The college produces skilled students every year who are placed at various good positions in India as well as abroad.The college offers diploma courses in various streams of engineering. There are 60 seats each for Electrical, Mechanical and Electronics.

Fifty seats each are available for Automobile and Civil engineering. There are 40 seats for computer engineering students.

  1. Central Polytechnic, Thiruvananthapuram 

It has produced quality students every year. Its alumni are positioned in various government and non government organizations. It offers a number of courses for students but Textile Technology diploma and Television engineering course are famous among all the courses. There are 50 seats for civil engineering and 60 seats each for Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Computer Engineering and Textile Technology available for students.

  1. Women’s Polytechnic, Thiruvananthapuram

There are two reasons to make it special, first it is a college for women only and      second, it offers Instrument Technology, Fashion Technology and Commercial Practice as streams of study. There are 60 seats each for commercial practice and computer engineering. Forty seats are available for instrument technology and 50 seats for computer engineering.

  1. Government Polytechnic, Kalamaserry

The college has learned faculty and well equipped laboratories. It offers various streams of study for its students but the college is known for Diploma in Electronics & Production Technology. Courses in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning and Computer Designing are unique specialties of the college.

There are 50 seats each for Mechanical, Electrical, Automobile and Chemical engineering. Computer Engineering and Electronics Production Technology have 60 seats each and 40 seats are offered for civil engineering.
